If you wish to test the functionality of a latch lock before reinstalling it into a door then please proceed. However, please note we always suggest the best way of testing a lock is to test it in the door. We realize however this is sometimes inconvenient.
  • Step 1: Hold the lock vertically. It MUST be held vertically or the combinations will not process correctly.
  • Step 2: Push the control rod all the way in, the spring that pushes against this item is a rather strong one, so it may be tough to push in.
  • Step 3: With the control rod still engaged (pushed in) pull the striker out (away from the lock)
  • Step 4: With the control rod still engaged, lightly push against the striker. It should not retract. (This tests that the latch actually locks when the door is shut. Otherwise someone could open your door using a screwdriver.)
  • Step 5: With the control rod still engaged, process your combination, the striker should automatically retract.
